Filter Builder

 

Using the filter builder in Trends enables focused data analysis along with inline filter creation and updates.

  • Inline filter rule addition, modify operators, and directly apply the filter rule.

  • Save inline settings to create new filters.

  • Open filter builder for a full view of filter creation and management.

  • Open Filter Management to browse saved filters, and directly apply to Trends.

Note:  Other filter options are Secondary Filters, Instant Filters , and Compare Filters.   

The Filter Builder refines the data analysis by selecting specific dimensions, creating more focused and customized views of data, and enhancing the ability to isolate relevant data points.

Filter Options

The filter options enable a quick access to save the current filter settings, create new filters in the filter builder, browse saved filters, and expand conditions.

Click the filter icon to access filter options to,

  • Save filters

  • Create new filters using filter builder

  • Browse saved filters

  • Expand conditions

Note: The Expand Conditions persists based on the toggle on/off state.

Inline Filters

Inline filters in Trends let you add rules in the inline filter bar using saved filters, dimensions, or custom tags. You can modify operators directly and apply the rules inline.

Create Filter using Saved Filters

  1. Click + icon.

  2. Select In Saved Filters option from the drop-down, to select a saved filter rule or to create a new rule based on the saved filter.

  3. Select the saved filter from the drop-down list or type the name of the filter. Hover the filter name to see the tool tip with the filter rule.

  4. Click the filter bar to see the inline filter edit mode and change the operator (if required).

  5. Click the Filter icon, and select Save this filter.

  6. Provide the filter name and save the filter.

Create Filter using Dimensions

  1. Click + icon

  2. Select In Dimensions option to add a filter rule based on a dimension.

  3. Select the dimension from the drop-down list or type the name of the dimension.

  4. For example, adding Device Name as Roku to create a filter.

  5. Click the checkmark to apply or X to cancel the updates.

Create Filters using Filter Builder

  1. Click the Filter icon, and select the Open Filter Builder option, to see the Filter Builder dialog box.

  2. On the Filter Builder dialog box, define the rule for the new filter. 

    1. Select the dimension field.

    2. Choose an operator (for example, "equals", "not equals", "contains", "not contains").

    3. Select a value.

  3. Enter a name for the new filter.

  4. Choose a category.

  5. Click Apply to apply the filter rule.

    OR

    Click Save & Apply to save the filter in Saved Filters option and apply the filter.

Edit Filters

Inline Operator Changes

Change the search operator by clicking the filter box and the filter builder automatically opens the related search rule boxes.

For example,

  1. Click on the filter box, to see the inline filter builder in edit mode.

  2. Change the operator from equals to not equals.

  3. Trends automatically creates the rule boxes.

  4. Select the adjacent check box to save the filter rule.

    OR

  5. Change the operator from contains to not contains.

  6. Trends automatically creates the rule boxes.

  7. Select the adjacent check box to save the filter rule.

Add Multiple Values for a Dimension

Trends allows you to add multiple values for dimension using either of the options,

  • Typing the dimension values.

    or

  • Copying the dimension values with tab/new line as delimiter.

Typing the dimension values

  1. Type the dimension value and press ENTER key or TAB key to add the first dimension.

  2. Type the dimension value and press ENTER key or TAB key to add more dimension values.

  3. (Optional) Click the edit icon next to the dimension entry to update the dimension details and click ENTER key to update the dimension value.

  4. Click the checkmark to update and apply the filter rule.

Copying the dimension values with tab/new line as delimiter

  1. Copy multiple values which have tab/new line as delimiter.

    For example,

    1. The new line separators:

      Apple

      Roku

      MAC

      or

    2. The Tab separator:

      Apple | Roku | MAC

  2. Paste the copied values to the dimension value field.

  3. (Optional) Click the dimension values to edit the filter rule.

Example: Create Filter from Saved Filters

  1. Click +... to create a new filter, to see the filter bar with drop-down.

  2. Select in Saved Filter from the drop-down, to create a new filter based on dimensions.

  3. Select a saved filter from the drop-down list. For example, select Player_LG.

  4. Click the filter name to expand and modify the player condition from equals to contains TV_LG and update the rule with the player operating system. For example, select Device Operating Version as webOS.

  5. Click the checkmark to apply or X to cancel the updates.

Example: Create Filter from Dimensions

  1. Click+... to create a new filter, to see the filter bar with drop-down.

  2. Select in dimensions from the drop-down, to create a new filter based on dimensions.

  3. For example, adding Device Name as Roku to create a filter.

  4. Click the checkmark to apply or X to cancel the updates.

Filter Builder in Compare

During dimension comparison, time series displays data from the applied filter along with the main filter (All Traffic).

Click the Eye icon on the filter box to disable the All Traffic display.

All Traffic is now disables in the dimension metric widget.

Advance Filters

Trends enable the creation of filters by directly selecting dimensions from the dimension table using the Advanced Filter option.

  1. Click the Advance Filter on the action bar.

  2. Select the checkbox adjacent to the desired dimension in the dimension table.

    Selecting the dimensions from the same dimension table creates a logic OR function.

    OR

    Selecting the dimensions from the other dimension table creates a logic AND function.

  3. Click the checkmark to apply or X to cancel the updates, OR click Exit Advanced Filter button to exit the advanced filter mode.
